Message from our President:

These past few weeks in office have been such a pleasure with a lot of great activities, speakers and great plans for the future.  In July, we were pleased to have as a speaker Dan Rusanowsky “Voice of the Sharks”, it was a great program with a lot of great Shark trivia.  Dan also encouraged us to continue the work we do for the sight and hearing impaired.  In August we welcomed Author Bruce Petty who wrote “Saipan: Oral Histories of the Pacific War” and enlivened us with his life as an author now living New Zealand.  We also had our official visit from our District Governor Ray Maglalang and his support team.  Ray urged us to continue our desire to increase our membership during this year and he looks forward to returning for another visit.

At our August 12th meeting 55 Lions and guests along with 15 Sea Scouts took a cruise on the 65’ ship SS Steeves on the Monterey Bay.  The cruise started a little foggy, but it lifted as we headed south towards Aptos.  There were sea otters, dolphins and hundreds of shearwater to be seen.  What a fantastic trip and a special thanks to Lions Jim & Jeriann Bosso for helping make this cruise a pleasure for all and we look forward to be able to keep supporting the Sea Scout program.

We have a couple of great upcoming events and fund raisers I would like to encourage everyone to take part in.  On September 11th & 12th we will be participating for the first time in the Capitola Art & Wine Festival as a food vendor and we will be selling our delicious shrimp cocktails.  So, please come by to help work our booth and stay for some Art & Wine.  Also, on October 24th we are planning an all Santa Cruz County Lions Clubs Meet & Greet.  Lion Myrtle Disman from our club has organized this event so all Lions in this area will have an opportunity to say hello to their fellow Lions.  Please bring a guest and/or potential member, there will Food, Fun, and Entertainment!!
